RIVER ANNAN DISTRICT SALMON FISHERY BOARD

Welcome to the website of the River Annan District Salmon Fishery Board

This site will report on the deliberations of the River Annan District Salmon Fishery Board and will record it's achievements on a quarterly basis. It is intended to be of interest to anglers, visitors and proprietors of fishing alike. It will contain, among other things, copies of the Fishery Board's Environment Manager's reports, information about problems and any pollution incidents, details of who to contact in the event of problems relating to the river and its tributaries, and links to other sites of interest in the area and possibly beyond.

It will detail works both ongoing and at the planning stage to improve the Annan and its environment as a natural resource for the enjoyment of visitor and local alike.

The River Annan Board is a member of the Association of Salmon Fishery Boards, which is a Scottish institution, whose 2009 Annual Report containing many interesting articles may be accessed here as a pdf file

This is a technical resource, specific to the whole of the River Annan and it's catchment area. If you are looking for fishing, details of individual Beats and booking facilities, together with a comprehensive list of current river heights throughout the river, can be found on our sister site www.fishannan.co.uk . In autumn 2009 a film was made of salmon fishing on the Newbie beat and can be found on www.onlinefishing.tv

Before you go however, please take some time to navigate this site and hopefully enjoy the technical information that The Board intends to deliver here in as reader friendly a manner as is possible.

WARNING!!

The winter floods and ice floes have altered the river bed considerably in many parts of the river. Please take extra care when wading as a pool's topography may have changed dramatically since last season. Sea trout anglers fishing at night should be aware of the dangers as they reacquaint themselves with what they might consider familiar pools.

The Irish Sea international research into the sea trout problems is now
well under way and volunteers to assist in sampling rod caught sea trout
through measurement and scales are invited to come forward. Rod cought
Sea Trout donations are also invited, not to feed the fishery board
staff, but because it is illegal to sell rod caught fish and this is
restricting the sampling numbers. Researchers have been purchasing sea
trout from the nets but this has produced only 19 to date. I can tell
you however that the average weight of those 19 was 1.2 kilos.
